Charlie is getting ready to get in the ring, he is being held at gunpoint and “highly” encouraged to throw the fight, quick thinking Charlie lures him over by the showers and drenches him.
His Essanay films were between his Keystones (1914) and Mutual (1916) film period, not viewed as much as his Mutual short films and later feature films. The Essanay are a mixture between his Keystones and Mutuals. Interesting to see the evolution of the tramp. Someone once told me the tramp of 1931 would not want to hang out with the tramp of 1914.
